Description:
Kumbhalgarh Fort sits in the Aravalli Range, 82 kilometres from Udaipur, at an altitude of 1,100 metres. Its outer wall stretches 36 kilometres — the second longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. Built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century, the fort was never successfully stormed by an enemy during his lifetime. It was also the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, the Mewar king who became a symbol of Rajput resistance against the Mughal empire.
Ranakpur lies in a valley in the hills below Kumbhalgarh, reached through forests of teak and bamboo. The Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara — built in 1437 — is one of the largest and most important Jain temples in the world. Its 1,444 marble pillars are each uniquely carved — no two are alike. The play of light through the marble screens changes every hour, making the interior feel like a living, breathing space rather than a static monument.
